COLIN NORMAN

Colin Norman was educated at the University of Melbourne in engineering, mathematics, and physics. He took his D. Phil at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. He was a
Research Fellow at Magdalen College, Oxford and a Miller Fellow at University of California, Berkley. He joined the faculty at Leiden Observatory as an assistant professor. He has been a professor of physics and astronomy at Johns Hopkins University and astronomer at the Space Telescope Science Institute since 1984. He works in both theoretical and experimental astrophysics. He has held visiting appointments at a number of institutions including the European Southern Observatory, the Institute of Astronomy at the University of Cambridge, and the University of Melbourne where he is an honorary professorial fellow. His most recent observational project concerns the analysis and interpretation of the Chandra deep fields. He is currently principal investigator of the Hubble Origins Probe (HOP). His recent theoretical work concerns the magnetic collimation of astrophysical jets.
