PHA UNIX CDR Software
(Note: Some documentation links will not work
correctly if you are reading this on a machine other than a Computer
Center-maintained Solaris 2.x computer.)
- cdrecord-1.8a24
Description:
This package has several programs for reading CD's and writing new data to
the CDR drive. The main ones are cdrecord, cdda2wav and mkisofs. cdrecord
actually writes the data. cdda2wav will read music tracks from a CD and
convert them to WAV audio files on hard disk. mkisofs is used to create new
ISO 9660/Rock Ridge/Joliet file systems, which can then be written to CD by
cdrecord.
How to learn more:
(1) Read the
PHA CDR introductory web page
(2) See the man pages --
man cdrecord,
man mkisofs,
man cdda2wav.
(3) Browse the README files in /usr/site/cdrecord/doc
(4) Browse the
cdrecord home page, the
CDRECORD FAQ page and the
general CD-R FAQ page.
Command to start:
cdrecord (but you need command line arguments to do anything)
- fbkmount and fbkumount
Description:
These programs allow you to mount and unmount disk images containing
ISO 9660-based (meaning pure or Rock Ridge-enhanced) file systems.
These programs require a special device driver; therefore they only work
on the computer titanium.pha.jhu.edu.
How to learn more:
(1) Read the manual pages
man fbkmount,
man fbkumount,
(2) Read the related Solaris manual pages:
man hsfs,
man mount_hsfs.
Command to start:
fbkmount fs_image mount_point
fbkumount mount_point
- hfsutils-3.2.6
Description:
This package has several programs for manipulating HFS file systems (Macintosh-specific). This program does not (yet) work with HFS+ file systems, but that
is okay, since all MacOS versions are backwards compatible with "plain" HFS.
There are a number of programs in this package: hcd hdel hformat
hmkdir hrename humount hcopy hdir hls hmount hrmdir hvol
(The optional Tcl/Tk/X Windows interface was not installed for lack of time.)
How to learn more:
(1) Here is the hfsutils
home page.
(2) Read the hfsutils manual page, which gives an overview of not only the programs in this package, but
also the rules for naming files in an HFS file system.
(3) Read the manual page for each individual program.

hmount
