A. The computer may be sleeping and only appear to be off. Move the mouse or press a key on the keyboard to awaken the computer. If this does not work, check the power lights on the computer and monitor to see if either is off. If so, switch on the appropriate item and wait until you can log on. If both power lights are on and no image appears, check to make sure that the power cable is plugged in and that there is power to the socket. If that fails, contact the PUC Lab systems administrator.
A. Press the Ctrl, Alt, and Delete keys on the keyboard simultaneously. A new window titled "Log On to Windows" should appear with text boxes labelled "User Name," "Password," and "Log on to." (if not, see note below). Enter your username and password carefully, because Windows 2000 is case-sensitive. Select PUCLAB from the "Log on to" drop-down select box menu. Click "OK" and Windows 2000 will begin authenticating your credentials.
Note: if pressing the Ctrl+Alt+Del key combination launches a pop-up box titled "Windows Security" instead of the "Log On to Windows" window, then someone else is already logged on to that computer. In this case, click on the "Log Off" button in the "Windows Security" window. An alert box will pop up asking "Are you sure you want to log off?" Click "YES" to this and to any request to save unsaved work, and the computer will log off the previous user and allow you to log on.
A. Move the curser over the "Start" button at the lower left corner of the computer screen, and click the left mouse button. The "Start Menu" will pop up.
Click "Shut Down" on the Start Menu. The following popup window will appear:
Select "Log off username" from the pull down menu if not already selected, and click "OK."
An alternative shut down procedure is to press the Ctrl-Alt-Delete key combination on the keyboard. This will bring up the "Windows Security" window. Click "Logoff..." An alert box will pop up asking "Are you sure you want to log off?" Click "YES", and the computer will you log off.
Q. Can I or should I shut down the computer?

Q. Can I or should I turn off the monitor?
A. No. These monitors are equipped with energy saving features that automatically turn the monitors off after a certain period of time. It is not necessary to turn them off manually. However, should it become necessary to do so, press the push-button toggle switch on the monitor to turn it off, and again to turn it back on.
