Searching for new physics: strategies, tools, and techniques

December 3, 2008

The  LHC poses many new challenges for searches for new physics:  searches
for specific signatures must cope with large background  uncertainties,
searches for composite models often must cover huge  parameter spaces, and
the generic search for beyond the standard model  physics face more
strategical challenges.  I will present some of the  progress made recently
in these areas, introduce some new formal  techniques, and discuss some new
ideas for publishing LHC results.
