Half BPS solutions in IIB string theory and M-theory

I will review recent progress in the construction of new exact half-BPS
supergravity solutions of type IIB string theory and M-theory.  On the
dual CFT side these solutions correspond to extended objects like Wilson
lines, surface operators or domain walls which preserve half the
supersymmetries.
