JHU Annual Physics Fair

You'll have a blast!
A typical exciting experiment from last year's Annual Physics Fair!
Every year, the JHU Department of Physics and Astronomy puts together a physics fair during the campus-wide Spring Fair in which people from the Baltimore area come to participate. Different demonstration sections are set up throughout the building, in areas such as electricity, mechanics and magnetism. Visitors watch demonstrations and participate in experiments in these specific areas while listening to the demonstrator's explanations of the physics involved.

The fair has been around for the past two years and has been a tremendous success due to its enjoyment in addition to the science involved. It is always announced on the Department of Physics and Astronomy's home page (above), so be sure to check the site in March to get the details of the 2006 fair. For various pictures of last year's fair, click here, and for pictures specifically from the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE) booth, click here.

PUC Lab

The Physics Undergraduate Computer Laboratory, or PUC Lab for short, is a wonderful asset to Physics majors here at Hopkins. It features ten software-laden computers, on which all physics majors are assigned accounts. Located in Room 478 of the Bloomberg Center for Physics and Astronomy, it also sports tables and whiteboards for majors to use for physics homework or for any other class. Accessible only to physics majors, the PUC lab is just one of the many great reasons to major in physics here at Hopkins. For more information on the PUC lab, click here.
