Practical Information

Before we get started with the subject matter I have a few practical remarks about the course. This is the Physics week. Every week culminates on Tuesdays when you hand in your homework here at the lecture. Working through and really understanding the homework is how you will learn physics best. The Physics week begins with three lectures. This is where you will be taught new concepts. We use demo experiments and examples to give you a feel for the important ideas in the material covered. Prepare yourself by reading or browsing the material. Take notes on stuff not in the book during lectures. On Wednesday I suggest you re-read the text and your notes striving for complete comprehension of the material. Thursday you should start working on homework problems. The problems will pinpoint areas of the text that you have not understood properly. Re-read and try again. If you get stuck don't despair because you have the conference on Friday to learn problem solving techniques in the subject matter and also to ask questions about the homework problems. Over the weekend you can then complete your homework set ready for Monday mornings lecture. We have 9 sections in this course. We have split you up alphabetically and here is the list. If you are in doubt check out the General Physics Message board or the lists that I have placed at the exits of the auditorium.
