Welcome to the website for 171.603/4: Electromagnetic Theory I/II.  From this webpage, you can check out announcements from Professor Domokos or me, get homework assignments and solutions, get copies of Professor Domokos's notes, and check out a variety of links relevant to the course.

This is a graduate course on classical field theory, with an emphasis on electromagnetic fields.  The first semester will involve a systematic review of electrostatic and magnetostatic phenomena, followed by a detailed study of electrodynamic phenomena, including wave propogation and covariant electrodynamics.  In the second semester, we will study radiating systems in detail, and cover more advanced topics.  Previous topics have included crystalography, magnetohydrodynamics and general relativity, and will be decided based on student interest.

The official textbook for the course is Jackson's Classical Electrodynamics, 3rd Edition.

I've listed a couple of pages that I've found useful. These pages provide some valuable examples and completed problems that are nice for studying with. Take care not to depend too much on these solutions though. Looking at the answers is like solving a Rubik's Cube by removing all of the stickers!
