Sailing in the Florida Keys

March 17 to March 26, 2001

For the seven days when graduate students are let out of their cages (aka spring break), five friends and I chartered a 43 foot sailboat from Marathon, Florida (in the Florida Keys) and sailed from there to Key West and back. One week to cover about 50 miles -- pretty relaxing. We had a terrific time -- enjoy these pictures of our journey!

Nick, James, Claudia, enjoying the inflatable toys.  This is where we anchored on
the second day, Newfound Harbor.

The crowded hordes, yearning to breathe free, and
straining for a view of the sunset off Mallory Square in Key West.

Remember, they have right of way...

On the way back from Key West, we stopped at Newfound Harbor again, with much
better weather, and found some pretty nice secluded islands...

with the exception of a yapping little dog who liked to chase rocks bigger than his head...

Bahia Honda State Park, where we spent the first and last nights on the boat.
This was taken from the old railroad bridge (which we sailed through).
