acceleration due to gravity

is: the acceleration with which an object falls near to the surface of the Earth, due to the gravitational force that acts upon it. The magnitude of this acceleration is given the symbol, and has the approximate value    [P2.1]

is equal: to the gravitational field at the Earth's surface.   [P3.2]

may be regarded: as the free fall acceleration of an object at the Earth's surface, or the surface gravity.   [P3.2]

See magnitude of the acceleration due to gravity.
