Cartesian coordinate system

is: a coordinate system that uses Cartesian coordinates, measured along mutually perpendicular axes from a point of common intersection called the origin. In three dimensions, the three axes are conventionally labelled as the -axis, -axis and -axis, and it is conventional to perform the labelling so as to produce a right-handed coordinate system rather than a left-handed coordinate system.

can be generalized: to any number of dimensions.
