series limit

for: a spectroscopic series

is: the shortest possible wavelength in the series. Successive members of the series become closer and closer together in wavelength, converging to the series limit.   [P8.2]

can be computed: in an emission line spectrum by setting i.e. when the initial energy level corresponds to and the electron in its initial state is no longer bound to the atom at all.   [P8.2]

See spectroscopic series.
