I searched my tire and under the hood, but couldn't find anything. The rotor looked kind of rusty, I hope I didn't mess up the wheel in the car wash yesterday.
Drove down the main road of the state park, and could hear the grinding sound mostly when I went slow. I then opened the hood and turned off the car, and pushed it a little to see if it also made the sound with the engine off. I didn't hear much, then some guy drove up offering to call the cops for me. I asked him for the nearest garage, he told me about Moe's Garage about 2-3 miels away.
Went there, to the tiny town of Pittsburg, MO, and a friendly bearded fellow named Gary took my car for a spin. Came back about 10 minutes later, and we could feel the left hubcap was pretty warm, while the right one was cool. He said he couldn't see the car until tomorrow, but I didn't want to sleep out here again, instead I wanted to get up to Kansas City. So Gary charged me 5 bucks for his time, and then told me which roads to take to K.C., and also told me of a good diner to eat lunch at in Collins.
I left, and tried to use the brakes as little as possible, to preserve the rotor if I could. I took 64 up to Rt. 54 in Hermitage, then took that to Collins.
Ate at a small restaurant called Smith's, on a berry farm. Had some chicken-fried staek and black-berry cobbler with ice cream for dessert. Bought a strawberry rhubarb pie to bring to Uncle Gary and Granny. Then hit the road again. Took 13 up to 50, and somewhere along the way saw a flatbed hauling a racecar that said, "Go, Granny, Go." I really wanted a picture, but alas, my camera wasn't accessible. Then I took 50 right into Kansas City, and figured out how to get to Wornall Rd. The highway dumped me at 103rd St., and I had 50 someodd blocks to go.
Made it to the building, parked across the street. The doorman let me in, and I remembered him from before, because he had a hook instead of a hand. Uncle Gary then came down, and we moved the car to the parking lot, and moved all my cool stuff inside.
Saw Granny, but she already ate dinner because I was taking too long, so Gary and I went to Winstead's, a cheap but good burger joint. We drove around KC for awhile, then headed home and watched some TV. Gary set up the spare room for me, and I had my own room again for the first time in weeks.
