Went to check on Le Car. It needed $500 of brake work, dammit! The piston somehow locked up, so the pads wore all the way down. Caliper started grinding into the rotor. Steel against steel. Sparks. A union not made to be. Told them to fix it, I'd get new pads, rotor, and caliper. They also showed my CV boots on the verge of tearing, and they'd give me new ones for $170. I declined.
Picked up Gary's girlfriend Cheryl, went to Cheesecake Factory for dinner. Good food, but pricy. And what the Hell is up with the damn ads in the Menu?!? Shouldn't that make the food cheaper? Pissed me off.
I then left for Day 1 of the jazz show. Bought a 3-day pass for a mere $25. Talked with a guy from the first band - 4 Fried Chickens and a Coke, he was surprised I got the Blues Brother's reference. How could you not? THen saw Claude "Fiddler" Williams with Henry Butler on piano and Bobby Watson on sax. Man, they were Good!. Butler kicked booty, especially for a blind guy.
Then caught Medeski, Martin, and Wood. Sans DJ Logic, which I preferred. Looked like John was playing a C3, along with his Wurli, Clav, and other Riggamarole. They started out spacey, then got funky during the second half. Not as kickin' as usual, but still pretty good. Man, I still think back to that first show of theirs I caught at the Grape St. Pub, a small bar in Manayunk, just outside Philly, in 1995. Well, what a show for day 1 or a 3-day show, all for $25!
