I was born and raised in Salt Lake City. I have lived there
for the majority of my life. I love Salt Lake City.
It is one of the most unique blends of mountain recreation
and western United States Culture in the world. I miss
its mountains most I guess. I have also lived in the
Philippines for a couple of years. Most recently I've lived
in Baltimore Maryland and currently reside in the suburban
paradise of Naperville Illinios.
I am the youngest of two children. My brother Jason and his wife Rachel are currently living and working in Conneticut. My parents are both originally from Oregon. I attended Meadow Moor Elementary school, Bonneville Junior High, and finished my elementary education at Cottonwood High school. I was never too interested in school until I reached High School. I was inspired by several of my science teachers and began to realize that school, and learning in general was pretty cool after all. During High School, the greater part of my time was spent taking science classes however, I did study the cello and play in the school orchestra. While I was still in high school, I got a job working at a local bicycle shop. I worked there for a couple of years and was blessed to work with some of the best people in the valley. Later, the manager of the bicycle shop opened his own store, Canyon Bicycles. I worked for him for a couple more years while I started college at the University of Utah. I studied physics at the University of Utah. I was blessed to be involved with a research group in the physics department that studied cosmic rays. The project is called the High Resolution Fly's Eye. Being involved with a research group made my education more fulfilling and enjoyable. I learned so many valuable skills and lessons through doing research. I started my studies at the University of Utah in 1994 and graduated in 2000. I interrupted my schooling for two years to serve a Mission in Quezon City in the Philippines for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. My mission to the Philippines was one of the most rewarding experiences in my life. It was such a unique experience to spend time with people from a culture that was so foreign to mine. Over the two years that I spent in the Philippines, I learned to love Filipino people and culture. It was also a very rewarding experience to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with the people of the Philippines and to see it change lives. The two years that I spent there flew by, and I returned to the states in December of 1997. In August 2000, I began a PhD program at John's Hopkins University studying physics and astronomy. I was lucky to have some of the coolest classmates around. Graduate school has been a cool experience. Living in Baltimore was also a highlight for me. I lived at 2714 Maryland Avenue with three of my classmates. It ruled. We had some great times at our house and became quick friends. In the spring of 2002, I passed my Preliminary Oral exam and finished all of the required classes for my degree. I moved out to Naperville Illinois to work at Fermilab on the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF). Research is cool. I have a lot of stuff though to learn here and I am reminded of this fact daily here. When I am not studying, I love to ride my bikes. I have been riding and racing bicycles on and off since I started High School in 1991. I started racing mountain bikes but soon got into riding road bikes too. I own 6 bikes of various wheel size and persuasion. During the winter months, I enjoy snowboarding in some of the choicest snow that the world has to offer at one of the numerous local Utah resorts. I also like swimming, jogging, and skateboarding. My indoor interests include mucking around on the computer and playing with Linux and new Linux applications. I have been using strictly Linux for over 6 months and continue to enjoy learning more about it. I am also into turntablism and hip-hop music. I received a Techincs 1200 turntable for Christmas last year and have enjoyed developing my battle-skratch techniques. I am especially thankful for my family and their influence on me. Any success that I have had could not have been realized without the unwavering support, encouragement, and love of my family. | |
