Comet Hyakutake (C/1996 B2)

The above image of Comet Hyakutake was taken on March 25th by an amateur astronomer in Mexico. At that time the comet was making its closest approach to the Earth at a distance of 9.3 million miles. The tail is about 30 degrees long, which is sixty times larger than the apparent size of the Sun. (© 1996 Pablo Lonnie Pacheco Railey)
