``Vortices and Quasiparticles in Superconductors: A Modern Primer'',
Lecture at the
NSF Summer School in Condensed Matter and Materials Physics,
July 2000, Boulder, CO .
An elementary introduction to the art of construction of effective
quantum field theories of strongly fluctuating superconductors.
Among the topics discussed:
Cooper pair-vortex duality and renormalization group analysis of the
scalar Higgs electrodynamics (SHE) (don't miss the very
last page!). What do those anomalous dimensions
really mean? Magnetic field effects.
Thermal versus quantum fluctuations (3D versus 2+1D Euclidean space).
Vortices as (relativistic or non-relativistic)
bosons, BdG nodal quasiparticles as Dirac fermions and their
mutual (topological) interactions as gauge fields. Unfortunately, only
rather sketchy transparencies of this lecture are available
in .pdf format. Still, particularly when combined with the ITP talk above,
it can serve as a useful backdrop for the more advanced
material discussed in other presentations on this page.
